Thursday Club Ride

Cloudy and a bit chilly today but again my windstopper bibs and jacket proved effective. Rode with the middle group and we had a really good ride. The speed sections felt good and a particularly hilly section that i usually have trouble with went really well today. I guess the Tuesday Hill Intervals pay off at last.

Stats
Total Time: 2.43
Total Distance: 80 km
Average Speed: 29.4 km/h
Max Speed: 61.2 km/h

Tuesday Hill Intervals

Really tough ride this time. Managed to do the hill section a little better than before but after that we did some speed sections and i had to let em go. We started the speed section immediately after the hill intervals and since i was one of the slower rider i got like 1-2 minutes of recovery between the events, a bit sad. Next time I'll speak up and bargain for some more recovery time. The group was mainly old licensed riders who usually go with the fast group on the Thursday distance ride. And since our captain didn't show up today the fast riders set the pace and i had no chance in keeping it up.

Stats:
Total Time: 1.42
Total Distance: 45 km
Average Speed: 26.3 km/h
Max Speed: 48.5 km/h

Started from our summer house today and thus made half the ride solo. For the first time i managed to ride 30 km solo under an hour. 31.4 km/h was the average for the first part. Rode the second half with the middle group. Good ride in nice and warm weather.

Stats:
Total Time: 2:04
Total Distance: 62 km
Average Speed: 30.1 km/h

Tuesday Hill Intervals

Good ride. Did the same ride as last Tuesday and it felt good and hard. I must work on my endurance and find a way of not losing my speed and breath on long shallow climbs. It feels like I'm having trouble to estimate gearing and workload when doing these. I find steeper climbs more easy to do.

After the hill climb we celebrated the good weather by doing some regular riding. We did two loops on a popular course that ends in a long hardly noticeable descent of about 1.5 km where we managed to hold speeds round 50 km/h peaking at 57.3 km/h. Good God, speeding is the shit :)

Continued my efforts to eat a little less before trainging and it seems to work for me. No feeling of throwing up this time despite the fact that i put in some hard work during the intervals.

Stats:
Distance: 45 km
Time: 1:41
Avg speed: 26.7 km/h
Top speed: 57.3 km/h

The Story of an Abandoned Bicycle

The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter today published the story of a bicycle, they as a test abandoned on a bridge locked to the railing in Stockholm. The author then took pictures of the bike during it's lifecycle that spanned from September 27th 2004 to June 13 2005.

Now the pictures of the bicycle fight against the elements and thieves has been published as a Flash Movie with Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" playing in the background.

Eating before a ride, thanks all!

Asked for some advice regarding eating before an evening ride after feeling like throwing up after Tuesdays Hill Intervals. Not that intervals should make you feel good when you're at it, but I had a feeling that I maybe eat too much and/or too soon before the ride.

Got some good input from DC, VinoVelo and Jank, thank you all!

I'm in a special position right now since I'm home on paternity leave with my youngest daughter, Mimmi. I will return to work in August and will try to eat my lunch a little later than normal and do the bananas/oatmeal thing in the late afternoon and eat supper when i return from the ride.

Eating lunch later, is right now when I'm home with Mimmi, not an option. I will however try to eat less more often during the afternoon so I don't have to eat so much supper before the ride.

Yesterday before the distance ride i deliberately ate less than normal during supper and it felt better than usual during the ride. I usually carry a banana in my back pocket that I eat halfway through the ride. But yesterday i took a handful of dried apricots instead and that made it easier to nibble during the whole ride. I can really recommend this but be sure to have water at hands because the sweetness of them makes you mouth feel like it's filled with glue.

Thursday Club Ride

Good club ride this time. Summer is finally here! 22 degrees Celsius and practically no wind, even warmer yesterday compared with Tuesdays Hill Intervals.

We did the rotating chain on the three speed sections instead of "free speed for all" and it worked out fine this time. I however have problems with one of the sections that contain an easy but long climb where i always seems to lose the wheel in front of me. Did this tonight as well and let the chain go, but managed to do the rest of the section on my own without losing to much on the others. It must be some mental thing since the climb is fairly easy, got to work on that :)

Stats:
Total Distance: 84 km
Total Time: 2:52
Average Speed: 29 km/h
Max Speed: 59.6 km/h

Tuesday Hill Intervals

Tuesdays climbing was good. We tried a new section this evening, which is located in a more picturesque location, to match the evenings beautiful weather, sun and 20 degrees Celsius. Good hills with less recovery between the efforts. One steep short hill and and a long more moderate climb and 7 loops through them took the breath out of me.

Need some advice from fellow cyclist. When you have an evening training do you eat a regular supper before or after the event? I have been eating before but i sometimes feel a bit nauseous in the beginning of the ride specially on the Tuesday intervals. The training starts at 18:15 and i ride from home at 17:45 after having dinner around 17:00. Should i eat a bit earlier or wait until afterwards? And are there some foods i should stay away from? Today i usually eat pasta or fish on training days.

Stats:
Distance: 44 km
Time: 1:43
Avg speed: 25.3 km/h
Top speed: 48.8 km/h

Thursday Club Ride

Heavy ride today. Lost the lid to my water bottle during the start. Didn't notice it until i hit a bump and i felt water spraying on my legs. The lid must have unscrewed itself. In a couple of minutes the bottle was only half full, but at least that gave me 40 cl to drink during the ride. Thank you Jonas for offering me some of your water at the end. I really needed it :)

Sunny and warm at the beginning but i started freezing when we had about 15 km left.

Stats:
Total ride time: 2:48
Total distance: 80 km
Avg speed: 28.6 km/h
Max speed: 61 km/h

Tuesday Hill intervals

Did some climbing with the club tonight. It all felt good. Leg strength is accumulating. Six times up the 500 m hill and three times up the shorter but steeper one.

Got an advice from the captian who spotted that the lower end of my bars was pointing slightly upwards. He said that i should fix it so that they where more horizontal. I'm going to try it on the Thursday distance ride and see if it makes any differance, probably it will since the reach to the hoods will decrease a bit.

Stats:
Total distance: 33.4 km
Total time: 1 hour and 27 minutes
Avg speed: 23 km/h
Max Speed: 44.5 km/h

Back on Track

Bad weather and a light cold has kept me from riding for 10 days!!! I was a bit sceptic about my form today when i mounted my Canon and rolled home from our summer house. But it all felt good, and I kind of knew that it would :-)

Took the long way home today and landed at the following stats:

Total distance: 45 km
Total time: 1 hour 32 minutes
Average Speed: 29.1 km/h
Max Speed: 55.3 km/h

Biker Apologize

The Union - Opinion

Biker, Rick Silberman, makes an official apology after having a clinch with a driver.

Good call Silberman! I think it is easy to look at cars and their drivers as enemies when driving in traffic. Your vulnerability as a biker tend to make you defensive, a state of mind that seldom helps your judgement.
