Strange Bikes

The Recycle, as the guys in Lygnens Vanner calls their creation, sure looks strange. I guess riding fenderless is not an option. A couple of barf bags for the rear rider on rolling twisting country roads is probably also a good idea.

Another picture and a movie of the bike in action.

The back-to-back concept is kinda 'common' in recumbent cycling. Take a look at

http://betereenligfiets.nl/detail.asp?TYPE=rug-aan-rug-tandem

and

The design has some specific advantages: it is easily split in two halves, very little aerodynamic drag, _both_ riders have their own drivetrain and therefore they can choose their own gear ratio. And last but not least: riders can easily hear each other at high speeds be cause their heads are so close

While cool to look at, and even see in action, I ain't willin' to be the backseat pedaler on the 1st 2. ;-D

The Sideways Bike is just plain bizarre. ;-D

"and last but not least: riders can easily hear each other at high speeds be cause their heads are so close." What nonsense. Riders' heads are far closer together on a traditional tandem arrangement.
