Raise those handlebars! That will fix it.

There are those (and I do not count myself in their number) who are convinced the only solution is to ride a recumbent.

I usually feel lower back pain when going out to hard without a proper warmup. Taking it easy and spinning the first 15 to 20 minutes often prevents this.

I experienced neck pain when I started riding my new drop-bar bike. It stopped when i learned from a friend that i should ride with my arms more relaxed.

Riding with a heavy back-pack is also a killer. It works for shorter distances but really kills your back if you stay out long.

back pain is a natural by-product of cycling - much like sitting for long periods behind the wheel of a car, at a computer terminal, and sleeping on an unsuitable bed. Recently, developments in memory foam mattresses may provide a feasible, long term solution to such problems. Many people's initial reaction is to see a physio, get some chiropracic treatment, or do some stretches whilest working in front of a computer [or driving]. These solutions do however, only provide short term solutions to the problem of back pain; whereas a new memory foam mattress could be a serious long-term resolution to such problems - just ask your doctor!
Many people are put of by specialist mattress prices, however if you consider how often [and for how long] you will be using it then this should justify the initial outlay.
